Description
English: Experimental ten-cent coin (the size of a large cent) made of copper-nickel. The pieces took too much force to strike, and the project was abandoned. There's discussion of this in Don Taxay, The U.S. Mint and Coinage at pages 246 to 248. From the collection of the Money Museum of the American Numismatic Association, Colorado Springs, CO
Date July 6, 2011 for the image, 1868 for the coin.
Source Original pattern coin photographed.
Author Wehwalt took the image; James B. Longacre, a federal employee in the performance of his duties made the coin. The design followed that of the Braided Hair cent (first struck 1839).
